MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Myrtle Beach Police Department has announced the addition of a new officer to its ranks, Officer Jeremy Lugo, who recently graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

Officer Lugo was officially sworn in and is eager to begin his career in law enforcement, bringing a wealth of experience from his military background.

Officer Lugo, of Puerto Rican descent, was born in Connecticut and raised in Florida.

After graduating high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served for seven years. During his military career, Lugo worked as an aircraft electrician and marksmanship instructor, with deployments to locations including South Korea, Guam, San Diego, Iwakuni, and Okinawa. While stationed in Hawai’i, he met his wife, Jewel, and they married in 2019. The couple later moved to North Carolina, where Lugo served as an aircraft electrician instructor and welcomed their son, Javi Sage Lugo.

As his military contract was coming to an end, Lugo and his family decided to relocate to Myrtle Beach to be closer to relatives. With a desire to continue serving the community, Lugo pursued a career in law enforcement, citing his skill set, ability to connect with people, and passion for helping others.

“My current goals within the department are primarily to patrol and connect with the community and then to explore various special assignments that include SWAT, street crimes, and K-9,” Lugo shared in a brief biography provided by the department. “Long term, I want to hopefully one day become the Chief of Police.”

Outside of work, Lugo enjoys playing video games with friends from around the world and spending time with his family. He expressed his excitement to start this new chapter in his career and his commitment to making a lasting impact in the Myrtle Beach community.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department expressed pride in welcoming Officer Lugo to the team and looks forward to the contributions he will make to the department and the community.
