NEW CASTLE, Del. – Delaware commuters encountered light but steady slowdowns Friday morning as highway maintenance and construction projects narrowed lanes along two major routes in New Castle County.
As of 8:16 a.m., a right-turn lane closure was in effect on Red Lion Road (Route 71) northbound between Jester Street and Wrangle Hill Road (Route 72) due to ongoing construction. State transportation officials advised drivers to use caution in the area, with work expected to continue until 3 p.m.
Earlier, at 7:59 a.m., cleanup crews began trash removal operations along the Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway (Route 1) northbound between the Biddles Toll Plaza and Wilmington. The maintenance activity is scheduled to last until 4 p.m., with officials warning of intermittent lane restrictions and potential brief slowdowns throughout the day.
Both projects are expected to remain active into the afternoon, though no major congestion or accidents have been reported.
