Cops Find Gun in Shoe of Man Violating Restraining Order While Being Booked

WILKES-BARRE, PA — A startling discovery was made at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility where a loaded firearm was found in a defendant’s shoe following an arrest for a protection order violation. Wilkes-Barre City Police have charged 22-year-old Renan Tineo of Hazleton, PA, with firearms-related offenses in addition to Indirect Criminal Contempt.

The incident unfolded on the evening of May 28, 2024, when police were called to a residence on Walnut Street due to a reported violation of a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order. Tineo was arrested at the scene after he allegedly visited the residence, breaching the active protection order.

After processing at city headquarters, Tineo was transported to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility (LCCF) for arraignment. It was during the intake process at LCCF, specifically when Tineo was instructed to use the bathroom and leave his clothing on the floor, that corrections officers discovered the hidden firearm in his footwear.

This incident has prompted further investigations, and Tineo faces serious charges related to the possession of the weapon and the breach of the protection order. The Wilkes-Barre City Police and correctional staff are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this serious breach of security.
