Consumers Supply Distributing, LLC has recalled two varieties of its dog biscuits after federal testing detected possible Salmonella contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced December 24.
The recall covers 4-pound bags of Country Vet Biscuits – Original Meaty Flavor and Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits – Meaty Flavor with Chicken, both produced under lot number 40906513 with an expiration date of September 6, 2026. The affected products were distributed to retail stores in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Montana, and Nebraska.
While no illnesses have been reported, Salmonella poses risks to both pets and humans who handle contaminated pet food. People infected may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain. Pets can develop similar symptoms including lethargy, fever, and bloody diarrhea, and infected animals may transmit the bacteria to other pets or humans.
The issue was identified through a routine FDA sampling program that found the bacteria in finished product samples. The company has halted production and distribution of the affected lot and is investigating the source of contamination.
Consumers are urged to stop feeding the recalled biscuits to their pets immediately and return any remaining product for a full refund.
