Driver found asleep in crashed car among incidents in Stafford County report
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA – A driver found asleep behind the wheel after a crash led a series of incidents in Stafford County, where deputies also responded to a stolen package and a fraud case involving unauthorized purchases.
The DUI arrest occurred around 2:42 a.m. Sunday near Truslow Ridge Court and Truslow Road. Deputies arriving at the scene found a vehicle in the grass with the driver asleep inside and a case of alcoholic beverages in the backseat.
After being awakened, the driver showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and erratic behavior, and admitted to consuming alcohol earlier. A field sobriety test was conducted, and the driver was taken into custody. A breath test later showed a blood alcohol content above the legal limit. An open container of alcohol was also located in the passenger seat.
The driver was identified as 39-year-old Gunner Barker of Fredericksburg. He was charged with driving under the influence and drinking while operating a motor vehicle and was held on a secured bond.
In a separate incident later that morning, deputies responded to Cookson Drive for a reported package theft. The victim stated the package appeared to have been opened and resealed, with the contents missing. No suspects have been identified.
That afternoon, deputies were called to Prosperity Lane for a fraud report after a victim discovered unauthorized charges on a Verizon account. The victim was informed that a new iPhone and Apple Watch had been added to the plan using what is believed to be false identification. The account was flagged for fraud.
Officials said the report reflects a snapshot of recent incidents and does not include all calls for service.
