Driver flees traffic stop as police seize drugs and ghost gun in Millersville
MILLERSVILLE, MD – A late-night traffic stop in Anne Arundel County turned into a foot chase and weapons arrest after officers uncovered drugs and an unserialized handgun inside a vehicle.
The incident unfolded around 11:20 p.m. Monday near Old Mill Road and Veterans Highway, where officers stopped a Honda Accord for a registration violation.
During the stop, additional investigation led officers to request a K9 unit trained in detecting controlled dangerous substances. After the K9 alerted to the presence of drugs, officers conducted a search of the vehicle.
Police said the driver exited the car and fled on foot but was quickly apprehended nearby.
During the search, officers recovered approximately 40.91 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, five pills of suspected Adderall, and nearly two pounds of suspected marijuana. Authorities also seized an unserialized P80 9mm handgun loaded with 16 rounds, along with an empty extended magazine capable of holding 30 rounds.
The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Jayden Derrell Smith of Catonsville. He has been charged in connection with the incident.
The case remains under investigation.
