Cumberland Boy Pointed Gun at Cops Before Barricading Himself In House

CUMBERLAND, MD — A juvenile was arrested on Thursday after a tense confrontation with Cumberland Police involving a firearm.

The incident began around 12:42 PM when officers were called to Arch Street following reports of a male juvenile carrying a firearm. The juvenile fled on foot upon seeing the officers, leading to a chase.

He was later cornered in an alleyway, where he aimed a handgun at an approaching officer before discarding the weapon and continuing to flee.

The chase ended when the juvenile ran into a residence on Grand Avenue, only to surrender shortly after. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters, and the discarded firearm was recovered. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Western Maryland Children’s Center in Hagerstown.

The juvenile faces several charges, including first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, obstructing and hindering police, failing to obey a lawful order, disorderly conduct, altering physical evidence, and numerous firearms-related charges.
