Cumberland, MD – A 23-year-old local man has been taken into custody on multiple sex offense, child abuse, and assault charges after an arrest warrant was served over the weekend, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

Authorities said Lucas Christopher Walker was arrested Saturday after a private citizen filed charges through the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office. The warrant included counts of third-degree sex offense involving a child under 14, fourth-degree sexual contact, second-degree child abuse by a custodian, and second-degree assault. Walker was taken before a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing and was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.

In a separate incident that same day, officers responded to the 400 block of Seymour Street for a reported breaking and entering. Police located two individuals, Joshua Gene Day, 34, and Abree Danicka Braithwaite, 32, inside the residence without authorization. Both were arrested and charged with fourth-degree burglary before being released on their own recognizance.

Officers also served a criminal summons on Kimberly Dawn Hughes in connection with a June trespassing case on Springdale Street. Hughes was released pending trial.

A quiet weekend in Cumberland saw three arrests, each marking a different side of the law’s reach.
