Surveillance cameras captured person sought after officers found evidence of gunfire but no victim

WASHINGTON, DC — Gunshots rang out on 14th Street before dawn Wednesday while DC officers were patrolling nearby, leading police to a shooting scene with no victim and a surveillance image of the person they are now trying to identify.

Fourth District officers were in the area of the 3400 block of 14th Street NW at approximately 3:36 a.m. when they heard gunshots, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers went to investigate and discovered evidence that a shooting had occurred.

No shooting victim was found at the scene, police said.

The person suspected in the shooting fled before officers reached the location.

Nearby surveillance cameras captured the suspect, and MPD has released video and photographs in an effort to identify the individual.

Police have not disclosed what may have prompted the gunfire or whether a person, vehicle or building was targeted.

No injuries were reported in the department’s announcement.

MPD is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the shooting should not approach the individual.
