A Harford County couple who have played the Maryland Lottery together for nearly 40 years were left speechless after discovering a forgotten Powerball ticket was worth $100,000.
JOPPA, Md. — A Harford County couple’s longtime Powerball tradition turned into a $100,000 payday after a ticket purchased during an errand stop matched enough numbers to claim a six-figure prize.
The 80-year-old retiree and his wife, who have been playing the Maryland Lottery together since 1989, claimed their prize on July 10 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The winning ticket was purchased on June 20 at the Royal Farms located at 630 Edgewood Road in Edgewood.
After the drawing, the man’s wife checked the winning numbers online and compared them with the numbers on their ticket.
Believing they had won a significant prize, she urged her husband to return to the Royal Farms to have the ticket scanned.
The store confirmed the ticket was worth $100,000.
The couple said they had won smaller lottery prizes over the years, but nothing close to their latest windfall.
They plan to use the money to pay bills and continue enjoying retirement.
The winning ticket was sold at the Royal Farms on Edgewood Road in Edgewood.
