DNA Match Leads to Stamford Gun Arrest as Detectives Seize Firearms With Altered Serial Number

A DNA investigation tied a Stamford man to two illegally possessed firearms, including a handgun with an obliterated serial number, leading to his arrest after detectives tracked him to a Connecticut jail.

A months-long firearms investigation by the Stamford Police Department’s Narcotics & Organized Crime Unit resulted in the arrest of Jackson Alcide, 30, after forensic testing linked him to guns recovered from a Forest Street residence.

The case began in January when detectives developed information that firearms were being stored at the location. During the investigation, officers seized two weapons, ammunition, and firearm accessories.

DNA Evidence Links Suspect to Firearms

Among the weapons recovered were a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number and a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver, according to police.

Detectives later identified Alcide as a suspect and obtained DNA search warrants for both the firearms and Alcide. Testing conducted by the Connecticut State Forensic Laboratory found that DNA recovered from both weapons matched Alcide.

“Analysis conducted by the Connecticut State Forensic Laboratory determined that DNA recovered from both firearms matched Alcide,” Stamford police said.

Arrest Made After Suspect Located in Danbury

This month, detectives secured an arrest warrant that was reviewed and signed by Stamford Superior Court. Before serving the warrant, investigators learned Alcide had been taken into custody by the Danbury Police Department on unrelated narcotics charges.

“While attempting to locate Alcide, NOC Detectives learned that he had been taken into custody by the Danbury Police Department on unrelated narcotics charges,” police said.

Stamford detectives traveled to Danbury and assumed custody of Alcide after he was processed on the separate case.

Charges and Bond

Following his transport to Stamford Police Headquarters, Alcide was charged with two counts of Illegal Transfer of a Firearm and one count of Altering Identification Marks on a Firearm.

Police said he was held on a court-set bond of $250,000 that could not be posted until after his arraignment.

“The Stamford Police Department remains committed to removing illegal firearms from our community and holding offenders accountable through thorough investigative work and strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies throughout the state,” the department said.
