Do You Know Him? Newark Police Request Help to Identify Burglary Suspect

April 18, 2024

NEWARK, NJ—The Newark Department of Public Safety is calling on the public to aid in identifying a burglary suspect involved in a recent apartment break-in and assault. The incident occurred on April 6 at around 6 a.m. on Ferry Street.

The male suspect, along with his girlfriend Vanusa Pedras, forcibly entered the apartment, demanding rent from the tenant. During the confrontation, the suspect intercepted the tenant’s attempt to call the police, destroyed his cellphone, and physically assaulted him. While Pedras has been arrested and charged with burglary, her accomplice remains at large.

Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé has encouraged anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to contact the Newark Police Division’s Crime Stopper tip line.
