Dover Police K-9 Venom Graduates State Academy, Joins Patrol Division

Corporal Miller and K-9 Venom have officially graduated from the Delaware State Police K-9 Academy and will begin serving with the Dover Police Department’s Patrol Division.

The Dover Police Department is celebrating the graduation of Corporal Miller and his K-9 partner, Venom, from the Delaware State Police K-9 Academy. The department announced the milestone this week, marking the completion of extensive training that certified the pair as a police K-9 team.

Officials said the duo demonstrated the skills and teamwork required to successfully complete the academy and prepare for service in the community. Their graduation adds a new K-9 resource to the department’s law enforcement operations.

“Over the course of their extensive training, Cpl. Miller and Venom demonstrated the dedication, discipline, and teamwork necessary to become a certified police K9 team,” the department said in a statement.

Police said the pair “have prepared them to serve and protect the citizens of Dover with distinction” as they begin their assignment with the Patrol Division.

Venom and Miller will assist officers with criminal apprehensions, tracking suspects, evidence recovery, and other public safety duties throughout the city.

Venom to receive explosives detection training

The department described Venom as its newest four-legged officer and noted she is currently the agency’s only female K-9. Additional specialized training is already planned.

“Venom, our only female K9, will be trained in explosives detection in the coming months and become a true dual-purpose K9,” the department said.

Officials added that the dog has already shown strong potential. “She has already proven to be a driven and capable partner, and we look forward to watching her develop alongside Cpl. Miller.”

The department concluded its announcement by congratulating the team on the achievement and expressing pride in their accomplishment.
