Driver dies after suffering medical emergency in crash on Oxford Avenue

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — A fatal crash occurred Saturday evening in the city’s 2nd District after a driver suffered a suspected medical emergency and collided with another vehicle, police said.

The incident happened around 6:38 p.m. at the intersection of Oxford Avenue and Burholme Avenue.

According to preliminary reports, the driver of one vehicle is believed to have suffered a heart attack before crashing into another vehicle that was stopped at a red light.

Medics responded and transported the driver to Jefferson Einstein Hospital – Jeanes Campus, where he was later pronounced dead.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries to anyone in the second vehicle.

Authorities have not released the name of the deceased driver.

The crash remains under investigation by Philadelphia police.
