DUI arrest after driver found unconscious in traffic
Stafford, VA – A Woodbridge man is facing DUI charges after deputies discovered him passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle blocking a turn lane Thursday night, with signs of heavy intoxication and a strong odor of alcohol in the air.
Just after 8:15 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a disabled vehicle obstructing traffic at McWhirt Loop and Warrenton Road. When Deputy S. Waheed arrived on scene, he located a man slumped over in the driver’s seat, apparently asleep with the engine running.
Deputies took precautionary steps to box in the vehicle before approaching. Despite several attempts, it took time to rouse the driver. Once awake, the man, identified as 45-year-old Leonard Rouse Jr. of Woodbridge, displayed slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and emitted a strong smell of alcohol.
Rouse refused to participate in field sobriety testing and declined to provide a breath sample. He was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, stopping on a highway, and refusal to submit to a breath test. He was later released on an unsecured bond.
