Early-morning blaze guts 17th Avenue home in Brick Township

BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – A quiet neighborhood on 17th Avenue erupted into chaos early Wednesday morning when a fast-moving fire tore through a residence, sending thick smoke into the night sky and drawing a large emergency response.

The alarm came in just after 1 a.m. for what was first reported as a smoke condition. When Brick Township police officers arrived, they quickly upgraded the call to an active structure fire after spotting heavy smoke pouring from the home.

Engine 2471 was first on scene and encountered a severe smoke condition. Captain 2420 established command as firefighters immediately went to work, securing a water supply, forcing entry, and advancing an attack line inside the residence to knock down the flames.

As the blaze intensified, command escalated the incident to a second alarm, summoning additional manpower and apparatus from neighboring companies. Ladder 2435 arrived to perform primary searches for occupants and ventilation operations, while Lieutenant 2440 took over as Operations to coordinate interior suppression efforts.

Crews battled the flames for several hours, performing extensive overhaul once the fire was contained. No injuries were immediately reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Brick Township Fire Bureau.
