Elderly man attacked on CTA stairs in South Loop, police search for suspect

An 82-year-old man was assaulted in broad daylight at a busy transit station, prompting a public alert and safety warning.

Chicago, IL – Police are searching for a suspect accused of attacking an 82-year-old man on a CTA platform staircase in Chicago’s South Loop, according to an alert issued by authorities.

The incident occurred around 11:59 a.m. Monday in the 0-100 block of East Roosevelt Road, within the city’s 1st (Central) District. Officials said the victim was battered while on the stairs leading to the train platform.

Authorities described the suspect as an African American male wearing a black Aeropostale sweater, black pants and black-and-white gym shoes. No further identifying details were immediately released.

Police issue safety guidance following attack

The attack, which took place during late morning hours in a high-traffic transit area, has raised concerns about rider safety and prompted officials to urge vigilance among commuters.

Police also advise riders to use emergency features and avoid engaging with suspects.

“If confronted by an assailant, remain calm and never pursue,” the alert states. “Press the emergency button and alert the Transit Attendant. Call 911 immediately, provide detailed description of location and assailant.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
