Elementary school safety patrol visits New Jersey State Police headquarters for hands on learning day

TRENTON, N.J. – Students from Warren E. Sooy Jr. Elementary School’s Safety Patrol program spent the day at New Jersey State Police Headquarters, where they explored the department’s history, met specialized units, and learned about careers in public safety.

The visit included a tour of the Historic Log Cabin Museum and Learning Center, where troopers shared the origins of the Safety Patrol program in New Jersey and the State Police’s role in expanding it across rural communities. Students also took part in live demonstrations by several specialized units, including the Mounted Unit, K-9 Unit, Bomb Unit, Marine Services Bureau, and the Office of Division Transportation.

Lieutenant Colonel Sean Kilcomons addressed the group, recognizing the students for their commitment to keeping their school safe and encouraging them to take pride in their leadership roles.

Officials described the event as both educational and inspiring, offering a firsthand look at the teamwork and discipline behind state law enforcement operations.
