Emmy winning alum returns to Toms River South to inspire business students

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Business Academy students at Toms River High School South got an inside look at the media industry this week when Emmy-winning alum Jenna Powitz returned to campus to share her professional journey in digital marketing and sports media.

Powitz, who earned a Sports Emmy Award for her work with the NBC Sports Digital Team covering the Olympics, spoke about her career path and the evolution of social media in sports broadcasting. She even brought her Emmy statuette to the presentation, giving students a firsthand look at the award.

Now with Versant—formerly NBC/Universal/Comcast as of January 1, 2026—Powitz works in social media management across a broad range of media properties. Versant owns networks such as USA, CNBC, E!, Syfy, and Oxygen, along with digital platforms like Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes.

During her talk, Powitz emphasized adaptability and creativity in the fast-paced media world, encouraging students to take advantage of opportunities across diverse digital platforms. The discussion left students motivated and more aware of the range of career options in digital business and communications.
