BALTIMORE, Md. — A Baltimore man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following the death of his 1-year-old son, who investigators say died after being left unattended in a family vehicle during July’s extreme heat.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, 32-year-old Yaakov Reichman turned himself in at Police Headquarters on Aug. 24 in connection with the death of 1-year-old David Reichman.
Medical Examiner Ruled Child Died of Heat Exposure
The Baltimore Office of the Medical Examiner determined the child’s cause of death was hyperthermia (heat exposure) after he was left unattended inside the family’s vehicle.
Police said Reichman was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was formally charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Child Found Unresponsive on Greenspring Avenue
The investigation began on July 16 when officers responded at approximately 1:40 p.m. to the 6200 block of Greenspring Avenue in Baltimore’s Northwest District for reports of an unconscious child.
Responding officers found 1-year-old David Reichman unresponsive. Medics attempted life-saving measures, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigators determined the child had been left inside the family’s vehicle before being discovered by his parent. The Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed heat exposure as the cause of death, leading homicide detectives to pursue criminal charges.
