Fire destroys Clear Spring home, no injuries reported

CLEAR SPRING, Md. — A Memorial Day morning fire caused significant damage to a single-family home on Draper Road in Clear Spring, with estimated losses totaling $300,000, according to fire officials.

No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The fire originated on the home’s porch and was discovered by a passerby, who alerted emergency services. The Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responding department. A total of 70 firefighters responded to the one-alarm fire, which took approximately 45 minutes to bring under control.

Cause remains under investigation

The property was not equipped with fire alarms or a sprinkler system, and the smoke alarm status remains unknown. Fire investigators have not yet determined the official cause of the fire.

The blaze was reported at approximately 8:34 a.m. on Monday at 13428 Draper Road. The home, owned by Joshua Lerch, sustained an estimated $200,000 in structural damage and an additional $100,000 in lost contents.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist prior to the arrival of the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. No arrests or criminal activity have been reported in connection with the incident.
