Multiple arrests made in Oakland through April and May, including DWI and weapons charge

OAKLAND, N.J. — Police in Oakland made several arrests over the past six weeks involving outstanding warrants, narcotics, a firearms-related incident, and impaired driving, according to recent reports from the Oakland Police Department.

On April 11, Detective Sergeant Michael Griffin conducted a traffic stop on Yale Way, resulting in the arrest of a 48-year-old Oakland resident. The individual was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Pompton Lakes and was also found in possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia. He was taken into custody, processed, and released pending a future court appearance in Bergen County Superior Court.

Four days later, on April 15, Officer Timothy McDonough initiated a traffic stop on Skyline Drive, arresting a 32-year-old Irvington man wanted on a warrant out of Wanaque. The individual was processed and released on his own recognizance. Officer McDonough made another warrant-related arrest on April 23 involving a 41-year-old Paterson man, also on Skyline Drive. That offender, wanted on a warrant from Paterson, was similarly released after processing.

On April 30, Sergeant Charles Kelly stopped a vehicle on Franklin Avenue and arrested a 50-year-old Pompton Lakes man for an active warrant out of Paterson. The man was processed and released on bail.

Firearm incident and DWI highlight May arrests

A more serious incident occurred on May 5, when several officers responded to a Hiawatha Boulevard residence following reports of a man pointing a firearm at someone inside. Following an investigation, a 69-year-old Oakland resident was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. He was transported to Bergen County Jail following processing.

Most recently, on May 20, Officers Hank Anderson and Matthew Lopez responded to Spear Street after reports of a vehicle being driven erratically. A 19-year-old Oakland woman was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. She was processed and released to a responsible adult. Sergeant Charles Kelly assisted at the scene.
