Fire destroys home in Edgewood

EDGEWOOD, Md. — Firefighters responded to a structure fire at a single-family home on Railroad Avenue on Friday afternoon, according to local authorities.

The blaze broke out at approximately 12:33 p.m. at 2102 Railroad Avenue, with crews from the Joppa-Magnolia Fire Company arriving to find the residence owned by Chaim Shugarman ablaze. Forty firefighters worked for 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

No injuries were reported, but the fire caused an estimated $180,000 in structural damage and $20,000 in damage to the contents of the home. Investigators noted that there were no smoke alarms or fire sprinklers present in the residence at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made. According to officials, the fire originated in the exterior wall of the building.
