JACKSON, N.J. — Firefighters from Jackson Fire District No. 3 successfully rescued a dog trapped under a shed on Wednesday without injury to the animal or damage to the structure, according to officials.

Firefighters from Jackson’s Station 55 responded to the call involving a dog stuck beneath a backyard shed. Upon arrival, Chief Halpin conducted a size-up of the situation to determine the safest method of extrication.

Firefighters deployed a Vetter Wedge Airbag, a specialized tool designed for lifting heavy objects in tight spaces. The equipment allowed responders to raise the shed just enough to allow the dog to escape on its own.

“The dog was able to self-rescue,” the department reported. “There were no injuries and no damage to the shed.”

The Vetter Wedge Airbag is commonly used in technical rescues where controlled lifting is required. Its deployment in this situation minimized risk to both the animal and the structure.
