Man charged in deadly April shooting of Charles Meile

TOWSON, Md. — A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a man in the early morning hours of April 19 in Baltimore County.

Detectives with the Baltimore County Police Department on Thursday announced the arrest of Benjamin Rowland in connection with the homicide of 48-year-old Charles Meile. Police said Meile was found with at least one gunshot wound around 2 a.m. in the 1100 block of Ingleside Avenue in the 21207 ZIP code.

Officers responded to the scene after reports of gunfire in the area. Meile was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Following an investigation led by the department’s homicide unit, Rowland was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. Authorities have not released details on the motive or what led investigators to Rowland as a suspect.

Rowland is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Ongoing investigation

Police have not disclosed whether the suspect and victim knew each other or if the incident was targeted. Additional information, including court dates or potential legal representation for Rowland, has not been released.

The case remains under investigation by Baltimore County homicide detectives.
