Stafford woman charged with DUI and felony hit and run after crash

STAFFORD, VA — A 35-year-old woman was arrested late Wednesday night after allegedly crashing into another vehicle and fleeing the scene while under the influence.

Deputy S. K. Copeland responded to Sterling Court and North Vine Place at 10:42 p.m. on January 29 for a reported vehicle accident. Witnesses told deputies that one of the vehicles had left the scene. Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle on Providence Street.

The driver, identified as Destin Johnson-Ware of Stafford, showed clear signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, unsteadiness, and the strong smell of alcohol. After failing field sobriety tests, she was taken into custody.

Johnson-Ware was charged with driving under the influence and felony hit and run. She was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held on a secured bond.
