Stafford man arrested for public intoxication at crash scene
STAFFORD, VA — A man who attempted to intervene at an active crash investigation late Wednesday night was arrested after deputies determined he was intoxicated and uncooperative.
Deputy K. F. Shifflett was assisting with a vehicle accident on Providence Street around 11:09 p.m. on January 29 when a male subject began attempting to speak with involved parties. The deputy noted the man had glassy eyes, unsteady footing, and a strong odor of alcohol.
The man was asked several times to go inside and refrain from interfering with the scene. He refused and remained outside in what deputies described as a clearly intoxicated state.
The man was taken into custody and identified as Dariel Nelson, 36, of Stafford. He was charged with public intoxication and transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held until sober.
