FORKED RIVER, NJ – Time is running out for four senior cats at the Associated Humane Societies Forked River shelter, where staff say they have just two weeks left to find homes for the aging felines who have spent months waiting to be noticed.
The shelter is appealing to the public for help placing Aldo, a 9-year-old male; Star, a 13-year-old female; Smootchie, an 11-year-old female; and Mittens, a 10-year-old female. Each of the cats is described as quiet, independent, and seeking peace more than attention — not lap cats, but companions who value calm and comfort.
Staff say all four cats are able to live with other felines and would thrive in homes that respect their boundaries and give them the space they prefer. Despite their age and reserved nature, each still deserves the safety and warmth of a real home instead of a kennel.
Shelter workers stress that older cats like these are often overlooked in favor of kittens, but they bring a different kind of companionship — steady, low-maintenance, and grateful for kindness. With just two weeks remaining, the staff are hoping adopters or foster families will come forward to give them a chance.
The four senior cats are available for adoption at the Associated Humane Societies Forked River shelter. Applications can be submitted online at ahscares.org/adopt.
