Text scam and fake loan reports spark fraud investigations in local area
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va — Two separate fraud reports involving a text scam and an unauthorized loan are under investigation after incidents reported on March 16.
In the first case, a victim reported receiving a scam text message and attempting to wire money to a suspect. The transaction was flagged by the victim’s bank before it was completed, prompting the victim to contact the bank for further details. No suspects have been identified.
In a second incident later that day, another victim reported that a loan had been taken out in their name without authorization. The victim discovered the issue through a credit monitoring alert.1
Authorities said the victim attempted to contact the suspected party but received no response and has since notified their credit bureau.
Both cases remain under investigation, and no arrests have been made.
