Frederick police officer cleared in Super 8 motel shooting incident

FREDERICK, MD — A Frederick Police Department officer has been cleared of wrongdoing following a shooting that occurred during a standoff with an armed suspect at a Super 8 Motel on August 1, 2024.

Officer Connor Walsleben fired a single shot at the suspect after observing him point a firearm toward officers and bystanders from his motel room window. The suspect was struck by the gunfire and later surrendered to deputies from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

Frederick Police Chief Jason Lando praised the officers and deputies involved, highlighting their composure and quick actions during the high-risk situation. “They worked quickly to ensure the safety of the public, apprehend the suspect, and immediately render aid to him,” Lando said in a statement.

The Maryland State Police conducted an independent investigation, concluding that Officer Walsleben’s use of force was justified and in accordance with law and department policy.

No officers or civilians were injured during the incident, and the suspect received immediate medical attention.
