Fraud probe ends with Frostburg arrest after search warrant executed

Frostburg, MD – A months-long fraud investigation reached a turning point when deputies executed a search warrant at a Park Avenue residence, leading to the arrest of a 23-year-old man now facing a long list of financial crime charges.

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation, led by the Patrol Division, culminated Tuesday when deputies carried out a search and seizure warrant at a home on Park Avenue in Frostburg. Evidence recovered during the search resulted in the arrest of Jason Darko Achampong, 23.

Achampong was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center for processing, where he is being held pending his initial appearance before the District Court. Authorities said the investigation remains active.

Investigators allege the case involves multiple incidents of fraud, identity theft, forgery, and theft-related offenses tied to credit cards and personal identifying information. Deputies said additional details may be released as the investigation continues.

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office was assisted during the investigation by members of the Combined Investigative Unit and the Frostburg Police Department.
