EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – A man wanted for a 2021 murder in East Brunswick was taken into custody by the New York City Police Department. On May 2, 2021, at approximately 5:40 am, patrol officers responded to the North Lake Apartment Complex located at 85 Main Street for the report of a motor vehicle crash, and shots fired. An on-scene investigation conducted by officers revealed a dispute between two males had taken place, which resulted in a motor vehicle crash and shots fired by a male suspect who had fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Detective Alex Danese conducted a follow-up investigation, and information developed identified the suspect as Sorel Thomas, a 28-year-old male from Bronx, New York. Detective Danese signed complaint warrants for Thomas’s arrest and provided all relevant information to NYPD Detectives. On February 10, 2022, NYPD Detectives contacted Detective Danese and advised they had taken Sorel Thomas into custody.

Thomas was transported to East Brunswick police headquarters, where he was processed for Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. He was subsequently transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
