Fugitive Murder Suspect in America Illegally Captured in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported Yermanny Suarez Laureano, a Dominican national wanted for homicide in the Dominican Republic, following multiple arrests in New York and Pennsylvania, officials announced.

Suarez was removed to the Dominican Republic on Jan. 23 after being convicted of burglary in Pennsylvania and serving a prison sentence. He had entered the United States at an unknown date and location without inspection or parole.

Authorities say Suarez was arrested in Yonkers, New York, in October 2023 for burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, and grand larceny. Two months later, Pennsylvania State Police arrested him in Hazelton for similar offenses, including loitering and prowling at night. He was convicted in Luzerne County in September 2024 and sentenced to 9 to 23 months in prison, followed by five years of probation.

ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officials encountered Suarez in Luzerne County Prison in January 2024 and detained him after his release. In October 2024, authorities in the Dominican Republic confirmed that Suarez was wanted for homicide, leading to his removal.

“ERO Philadelphia’s efforts have led to the successful removal of this criminal alien, ensuring he faces justice in the Dominican Republic,” said Acting ERO Philadelphia Field Office Director Brian McShane.
