Newark Crips Gang Member Admits to Racketeering Charges

NEWARK, NJ – Tre Byrd, known by his aliases “Bands” and “G Bandz,” a 22-year-old member of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips gang, has confessed to participating in a racketeering conspiracy, as reported by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.

Byrd’s admission took place before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton on Oct. 3, 2023, in relation to a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy charge.

Official records and courtroom statements revealed:

Between 2015 and Sept. 22, 2022, Byrd belonged to the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips, a group involved in violent activities and drug trafficking across the District of New Jersey and beyond.

Byrd collaborated with fellow gang members in March 2019 to orchestrate the murder of an opposing gang member. The target was fatally shot on March 20, 2019, in Irvington, New Jersey. In another incident on June 20, 2020, Byrd, in conjunction with another member, committed an armed robbery in Newark.

The upcoming sentencing on Feb. 7, 2024, could see Byrd facing a life sentence and a maximum fine of $250,000.

Acknowledgment was given by U.S. Attorney Sellinger to the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, including DEA, IRS – Criminal Investigation, ATF, the U.S. Marshals Service, and various local police departments and state agencies for their rigorous investigations concerning the Rollin 60’s Neighborhood Crips.
