December 16, 2024

NEWARK, DE — A 20-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged after police recovered large quantities of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms following a drug investigation earlier this month, authorities said.

The Newark Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit, assisted by the Newport Police Department and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, began investigating drug activity at a residence on the unit block of Martindale Drive.

On December 3, police conducted a traffic stop on Old Ogletown Road as part of the investigation. A search warrant for the vehicle resulted in the seizure of over one pound of marijuana.

The investigation continued with a search warrant executed at the Martindale Drive residence, where officers recovered more than 11 pounds of marijuana, marijuana edibles, and over 30 grams of psilocybin mushrooms. Police identified the vehicle operator and resident as Watson Kinsler, who was taken into custody without incident.

Kinsler was charged with multiple offenses, including possession with intent to deliver psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana in Tier 3 quantities, possession of drug paraphernalia, and related drug charges. He was held on $92,500 cash bail and transferred to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.

Authorities seized over 11 pounds of marijuana and arrested a Newark man in a drug investigation involving multiple agencies.
