WASHINGTON, D.C. – A woman was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries Saturday night after being struck by a Metro Red Line train at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station, according to D.C. Fire and EMS.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m., halting Red Line service between Farragut North and Judiciary Square for about an hour. Emergency crews worked to rescue the woman, who was trapped beneath the Metro car. By 11 p.m., trains were single-tracking through the affected area.

Metro officials labeled the woman as a trespasser, with station displays warning passengers to “use the opposite platform.” The circumstances surrounding how the woman ended up on the tracks remain under investigation.

Service disruptions also impacted Metro riders, with D6 bus detours and alternate travel options implemented between Union Station, Judiciary Square, Metro Center, and Farragut North.
