Georgia Father Charged After Toddler’s Tragic Drowning

August 10, 2024

KENNESAW, GA — A tragic incident in Kennesaw, a suburb of Atlanta, has led to the arrest of Kenton Hamilton, 47, following the drowning of his toddler son in a bathtub. The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office has charged Hamilton with several serious offenses, including second-degree murder and cruelty to children.

The incident unfolded on the evening of August 1, when Kennesaw Police Department officers responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive child at a residence on Windsor Court.

Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly before 9 p.m. and performed lifesaving measures on the 17-month-old boy, but were unable to revive him. The child was subsequently pronounced dead at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

In addition to the charges related to his son’s death, Hamilton is also facing charges for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony cocaine possession. He was taken into custody the morning following his son’s death.

This case continues to develop as local law enforcement and the community grapple with the devastating loss. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
