Deadly domestic shooting triggers AMBER Alert and pursuit
WASHINGTON, DC — A shooting outside a Glover Park apartment complex Wednesday afternoon left a 34-year-old mother dead, her 10-year-old daughter wounded and the suspected gunman dead after a cross-jurisdiction chase that ended in Southeast.
Officers responded at approximately 4:39 p.m. to the 4100 block of W Street Northwest for a report of a shooting in front of an apartment building. At the scene, police found an adult woman and a 10-year-old girl suffering from gunshot wounds. A juvenile male was also located at the scene unharmed.
DC Fire and EMS attempted lifesaving measures, but the adult victim was pronounced dead. She was identified as Rayven Amuan Edwards, 34, of Northwest. The injured 10-year-old girl was transported to an area hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Investigators determined that the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Stephon Marquis Jeter of Northwest, fled the scene in a black pickup truck with a 3-year-old male child inside the vehicle. Police said Jeter and Edwards are the parents of the 3-year-old.

Images of Jeter and the truck were distributed to the public. Around 6:30 p.m., Prince George’s County Police located the vehicle in Maryland and initiated a pursuit. The chase crossed into the District, where Metropolitan Police officers joined.
The vehicle ultimately crashed at 30th Street and Nash Place Southeast. Officers found Jeter inside suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. His cause and manner of death will be determined.
An AMBER Alert was issued for the missing 3-year-old. A short time later, the child was located unharmed at a family member’s residence in Prince George’s County, and the alert was canceled.
The investigation remains ongoing.
