Greenbelt man wins $50,000 scratch-off prize after five months of playing

December 21, 2024

GREENBELT, Md. — A lottery rookie in Greenbelt has claimed a $50,000 top prize from the Maryland Lottery’s 20X The Cash scratch-off game, marking his first big win since he began playing earlier this year.

The winner, who chose the nickname “Chando” for his public story, began trying his luck with Maryland Lottery games just five months ago after a coworker suggested he give it a shot. His winning ticket was one of seven scratch-offs he purchased recently from Like on TV, a retailer on Greenbelt Road.

“I couldn’t do anything but drop to my knees and thank God,” “Chando” said after discovering the win. “My kids thought I was joking, but I was in disbelief. This feels like a dream come true.”

The $5 ticket, which is part of the Lottery’s 20X The Cash game, delivered a life-changing moment for “Chando” and his family. He plans to use the winnings to buy a home for his family and create a memorable holiday season for his loved ones.

The store that sold the winning ticket, Like on TV, will also benefit from the win, earning a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
