Grocery run ends in huge jackpot for Maryland player

Silver Spring shopper wins $57K jackpot on $2 FAST PLAY ticket at local Safeway

Silver Spring, MD — A quick grocery run turned into a payday for one lucky customer who walked out of a Silver Spring Safeway with a winning FAST PLAY ticket worth $57,487 in Friday’s progressive jackpot drawing.

The jackpot hit came from the Maryland Lottery’s 7-11-21 FAST PLAY game, a $2 ticket that has now paid out its fifth progressive top prize since launching in April. The winning ticket was sold at the Safeway located at 15411 New Hampshire Avenue in Montgomery County.

This is the third straight Friday a Maryland Lottery FAST PLAY jackpot has been won, continuing a recent streak of Friday payouts that includes a $459,932 Fat Wallet ticket sold in St. Mary’s County and a $125,985 Lucky Numbers ticket sold in Annapolis earlier this month.

As with all FAST PLAY progressive games, the jackpot amount increases with every ticket sold until it is hit. When the winning ticket was purchased, the 7-11-21 game’s top prize had grown to $57,487. Once claimed, the jackpot will reset to its base level of $1,500 and begin climbing again with each sale.

The Safeway store that sold the winning ticket receives a bonus of $574.87 from the Maryland Lottery for its role in the sale.

The Maryland Lottery reminds all winners to sign the back of their tickets and store them securely until they are claimed. Players have 182 days from the date of purchase to claim any FAST PLAY prize.

The 7-11-21 game offers thousands of additional prize levels ranging from $2 to $1,000, making it one of the more accessible instant-play options currently in circulation.

Prizes exceeding $25,000 must be claimed through Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, either by appointment or by mail.
