Police helicopter tracks stolen car from Baltimore to Columbia leading to arrest and gun recovery

Baltimore, MD — A 24-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a stolen vehicle chase that began in Baltimore ended with a dramatic foot pursuit in Columbia, thanks to aerial surveillance by the Baltimore Police Department’s Foxtrot helicopter.

Kaleb Barak of Baltimore was arrested after police tracked the stolen vehicle he was driving across jurisdictional lines into Howard County. The pursuit ended in Columbia, where Barak abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot.

Foxtrot, the BPD’s airborne unit, followed the suspect through the city and into the suburbs, guiding Howard County Police to his location. The helicopter crew also pinpointed the spot where Barak allegedly discarded a handgun during his attempt to escape.

Howard County officers, working in coordination with the helicopter unit, quickly apprehended Barak and recovered the firearm.

Barak has been charged with motor vehicle theft, as well as multiple weapons and drug-related offenses. He is currently in custody pending further court proceedings.

The arrest marks another successful cross-agency operation between Baltimore Police and Howard County Police, who often collaborate in tracking suspects crossing jurisdictional lines.

The incident highlights the increasing role of aerial technology in modern law enforcement, with Foxtrot frequently aiding ground units during high-risk pursuits and investigations.
