Gunfire erupts inside food court at New Jersey mall; three taken into custody

WAYNE, NJ – Police say a fight inside Willowbrook Mall on Tuesday evening led to a gun being fired near the food court, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and the temporary closure of the shopping center.

According to the Wayne Police Department, officers completed evidence processing after confirming that a firearm was discharged during the altercation. Two adults and one juvenile were taken into custody for their roles in the confrontation that preceded the shot. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Chief Joseph Rooney said detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the dispute and are reviewing evidence and witness statements. Authorities emphasized that there is no indication of any ongoing threat to the public or the mall.

The Willowbrook Mall was cleared and is expected to reopen Wednesday at its regular time as the investigation continues.
