Surveillance video captures shooter pulling handgun from waistband before two vehicles are struck
NEWARK, NJ – A gunman ran from the front steps of a Newark home into the street, pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired several rounds at an unknown target before retreating to the same house, leaving two vehicles riddled by gunfire and police searching for his identity.
The shooting occurred Tuesday, June 2, in the 400 block of 4th Avenue, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr.
Police said surveillance video captured the sequence of events.
The individual was seen running from the front steps of a home into the street before pulling a handgun from his waistband and firing several shots toward an unknown target.
After the gunfire, the man returned to the steps and went inside the home, according to police.
A ShotSpotter alert detected the shots at approximately 10:14 p.m., prompting officers to respond.
Police canvassed the area and recovered four .40-caliber shell casings.
Investigators also found two vehicles that had been struck by gunfire.
No injuries were reported in the information released by the Newark Department of Public Safety.
Police described the individual as wearing a blue Nike Tech sweatsuit and black slippers at the time of the shooting.
More than two months after the gunfire, police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying him.
Officials did not disclose what the suspected shooter was allegedly firing at or what may have led to the shooting.
