A 45-year-old Hawthorne man has been arrested after investigators alleged he sexually assaulted a juvenile on more than one occasion, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
A Hawthorne man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile in Mahwah, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced Friday.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Jason M. Herskovitz, 45, of Hawthorne, was arrested Thursday following a joint investigation by the prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit and the Mahwah Police Department.
Investigation began with Mahwah Police report
Prosecutors said the investigation began Wednesday after the Mahwah Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that occurred in Mahwah.
An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Mahwah Police “revealed that Jason M. Herskovitz sexually assaulted a juvenile on more than one occasion,” the prosecutor’s office said in a news release.
Multiple charges filed
Authorities said Herskovitz was arrested in Wyckoff and charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
The Hawthorne Police Department also charged Herskovitz with third-degree failure to provide notice and re-register as a sex offender.
Following his arrest, Herskovitz was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
Prosecutor Musella emphasized that the charges are allegations and that Herskovitz “is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”
