Fatal two vehicle crash shuts down Dupont Parkway in Townsend
TOWNSEND, DE – A late-night collision at a major Kent County intersection ended in tragedy after two vehicles collided head-on, leaving one woman dead and multiple others injured as investigators work to determine what went wrong.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Dupont Parkway and Summit Bridge Road, where a Nissan Altima traveling southbound struck a Toyota Sienna that was attempting to make a left turn onto Summit Bridge Road. The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles.
A 69-year-old woman from Magnolia who was riding in the front passenger seat of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota, a 43-year-old woman from Dover, along with three additional passengers, were also taken to area hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The driver of the Nissan, a 50-year-old man from Townsend, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The intersection remained closed for approximately four hours as investigators examined the scene and cleared debris from the roadway. The investigation is being handled by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit.
