Teen fatally shot inside Chipotle near Temple University campus identified as Imhotep student
PHILADELPHIA, PA – A teenager was shot and killed Monday night inside a Chipotle restaurant near Temple University’s campus, and officials have confirmed the victim was a student at Imhotep Institute Charter High School.
The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office said its Homicide & Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is working in coordination with the Philadelphia Police Department to investigate the fatal shooting. The motive and circumstances of the incident remain under investigation, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
In the aftermath of the shooting, multiple units from the DA’s Office were deployed to provide support to grieving family members and witnesses. Among them were the C.A.R.E.S. Unit (Crisis Assistance, Response, and Engagement for Survivors) and the Community Engagement Unit. These teams were on location at the scene and later at the victim’s school to help students and staff process the loss.
On Tuesday morning, District Attorney Larry Krasner and Councilmember Cindy Bass joined trauma-care professionals and victim advocates at Imhotep Institute Charter High School to lead healing and grief support sessions.
The shooting took place inside the Chipotle restaurant located near Temple’s campus. Emergency responders arrived on the scene, but the teen victim did not survive. The name of the deceased has not been released pending official notification of family members.
The District Attorney’s Office said the investigation remains active and that efforts are ongoing to determine the sequence of events and identify any individuals responsible.
