Hollis Man Indicted on Weapons Charges After Traffic Stop Near LaGuardia Airport

July 10, 2024

EAST ELMHURST, NY – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the indictment and arraignment of Judd Sanson, following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of multiple weapons and police-related paraphernalia in his car. The incident occurred near LaGuardia Airport in East Elmhurst.

Sanson, 27, from Hollis, was indicted on a 20-count charge including criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition, and improper use of police uniforms. He was initially stopped on June 12 for obscuring his license plate with a covering.

The vehicle search revealed an alarming array of items including a loaded Glock pistol, nine loaded magazines, 127 rounds of ammunition, a baton with provocative language, and NYPD and MTA gear. The presence of these items, especially near critical infrastructure such as airports, raised significant security concerns.

District Attorney Katz emphasized the gravity of the find, stating, “The borough of Queens, hosting two major airports, must always be kept safe. These items posed an inherent and serious threat to public safety.”

Sanson faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. He is due back in court on July 22. Supreme Court Judge Edwin Novillo presides over the case.
