NEW YORK — A homeless man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a Bronx resident at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station last month, the NYPD announced.

Zhongqiang Chen, 32, was taken into custody on Thursday evening at approximately 7:55 p.m. within the confines of the 60th Precinct, according to police. He faces charges of second-degree murder in connection with the October 29 death of Timothy Rudolph, 54, of the Bronx.

Police responded to a 911 call for an assault at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station at around 11:20 p.m. on October 29. Officers arrived to find Rudolph with a stab wound to his back. Emergency medical personnel transported him to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was later pronounced dead.

The NYPD’s investigation led to the identification and arrest of Chen, who remains in custody as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have not released further details about the motive for the attack. The investigation remains ongoing.
