Homicide Investigation Launched After Body Found in Allegheny River

OAKMONT, PA — The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is currently investigating a case involving a vehicle discovered submerged in the Allegheny River near California Avenue. The incident was reported to County 9-1-1 at 5:15 PM on July 21.

Following the report, first responders immediately called for a dive team to inspect the vehicle. The dive team successfully located and assisted in the removal of the vehicle from the river. Upon further examination, detectives confirmed the presence of human remains inside the vehicle.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office is involved in the investigation and will work to identify the remains and determine the cause and manner of death.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this incident to contact the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers have the option to remain anonymous.
