Investigation Underway Following Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Baltimore

October 10, 2024

Baltimore, MD — The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place on Wednesday night in Baltimore. The incident occurred on October 9, 2024, at approximately 8:45 p.m.

An initial review of body-worn camera footage shows that a Baltimore City Police officer encountered a sedan driving the wrong way on Pennsylvania Avenue before it crashed into a parked car in the 1500 block. The officer approached the male driver and instructed him to sit on a nearby curb, which the driver initially did. Shortly after, the man fled on foot, prompting the officer to pursue and call for backup.

The chase led to a wooded area near the intersection of Argyle Avenue and Pitcher Street, where the responding officer, joined by two additional officers, found the man. Despite being given repeated commands to halt and show his hands, the man did not comply and displayed a firearm. The three officers then discharged their weapons, fatally striking him.

Emergency medical aid was administered, and EMS was requested, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A loaded handgun was recovered nearby. No officers were injured during the incident.

Per IID protocol, the names of the deceased and the involved officers are expected to be released within two business days, though that timeframe may be extended. Body-worn camera footage from the incident will be made public in accordance with Baltimore Police Department and IID policies.
